On a normal day on the producing side of Metro Minutes, the producers write scripts, put stories in the rundown, make last minute changes, and hand over the show script to the talent. It's important for the talent to read the script before the show begins. That's normally our routine.
However this past show deviated from the norm. We put a script together, but we also conducted interviews for the presentation video of Metro Minutes that will be used for Industry Night and the Web site. So, in essence, we were doing two productions within the span of 3 hours. Talk about fast-paced work!
Because of the multi-tasking involved in dealing with both productions, we began taping the show much later than normal. And, I think that affected our anchors for this week's show, Luz and Margarita. It was the first time each had anchored and the delay seemed to accentuate their nervousness. I think they felt rushed up there and never truly got as comfortable as they could. Once it was over, a sigh could be felt throughout the newsroom.
In life, repetition breeds success. The same goes for televsion news. We learn from each experience.
